CONSTITUTION OF
BRAZOS VALLEY INTERPRETERS OF THE DEAF

 

ARTICLE I: NAME

This non-profit organization shall be known as Brazos Valley Interpreters for the Deaf, hereafter known as BVID.

ARTICLE II: PURPOSES

· BVID is not organized, nor shall it be operated; for pecuniary gain, profits, or dividends to its members, and is organized solely for non-profit purposes.

· BVID shall be affiliated as a chapter of Texas Society of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc., hereafter known as TSID. BVID purposes shall be concurrent with those of TSID which are:

    • To promote the development and expansion of quality interpreting services available to persons who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing.
    • To encourage the recruitment and training of professionals in the field of interpreting for people who are deaf, hard of hearing and hearing.
    • To promote the highest standards of interpreting for and communication with people who are deaf, hard of hearing and hearing.
    • To train and encourage those interested in learning to communicate with people who are deaf, hard of hearing and hearing.
    • To offer a forum for professional interpreters for the exchange of ideas, opinions, and information concerning interpreting.
    • To offer meetings whereby members can learn, upgrade skills, and participate in group activities.
    • To unitedly support legislative interests and concerns.
    • To disseminate information concerning legislative action and current events on the local, state, and national level.

ARTICLE III: CHAPTER RESPONSIBILITY TO TSID

As a local chapter of TSID, BVID must meet the following responsibilities:

· Adopt and follow a constitution in agreement with the TSID constitution;

· Strongly encourage all BVID members to become members of TSID;

· Participate in governing TSID by sending a voting representative to at least three (3) official meetings of TSID Board each year;

· Coordinate local arrangements and/or support services for any professional development of classification activities and workshops open to the TSID General Membership with the InterpreTexan for statewide dissemination;

· File a written Chapter and Treasurer's report at each TSID's Annual Conference.

ARTICLE IV: MEMBERSHIP

BVID shall consist of Regular, Associate, and Chapter members.

ARTICLE V: MEETINGS

Meetings of BVID can be face-to-face or electronic. Dates and frequency of meetings are determined according to the Bylaws.

ARTICLE VI: EXECUTIVE BOARD

The Executive Board shall govern BVID and shall consist of the following officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Parliamentarian. At the discretion of BVID's membership, BVID's Executive Board may be expanded to include other members.

ARTICLE VII: COMMITTEES

BVID shall have a Nominating Committee and an Audit Committee. The Executive Board and /or the President shall determine the need for and the size of Special committees. The President shall appoint the Chairperson of each committee, with the exception of the Nominating Committee.

ARTICLE VIII: DISSOLUTION

In the event of dissolution of BVID, all remaining assets, real and personal property of whatever nature, shall be transferred to TSID to be kept for a period of twenty-four (24) months in escrow to allow for possible reorganization. If BVID is reorganized under these Constitutions/ By Laws, all assets will be returned to the BVID Treasurer. If BVID is not reorganized under these Constitutions/By Laws within twenty-four (24) months, all assets will become the permanent property of TSID.

ARTICLE IX: AMENDMENT

This Constitution may be amended or a new Constitution adopted by vote of two-thirds (2/3) of the voting members present at the Fall or Spring BVID membership meeting, after two weeks prior notice has been given to the membership.
