BVID General Meeting

August 28, 2001

The Meeting was called to order at 7:24 PM.

A quorum was determined. The following were in attendance:

The minutes from the June21, 2001 meeting were read by the Secretary and approved as corrected.

Reports:

President- written report

Vice President- written report

Parliamentarian- The constitutional by-laws are updated and on the web. There has been some new legislation. A new law for court interpreters has been passed which states that all court interpreters must have a special legal certification. Without this certification, interpreters working in court or in related areas will be committing a class C misdemeanor. This law is effective as of September 1, 2001, but penalties will not be in effect until January 1, 2002.

Old Business:

Fall Workshop:

Phyllis Hodges has volunteered to take care of the food for the workshop. She has been given a $50 budget. We still need to mail the flyers. We also need 2 volunteers to set up for the workshop and 2 volunteers to clean up after the workshop.

Video Library:

The video library is online.

Interpreter Hiring Policy:

The interpreter hiring policy is not online yet.

New Business:

Meeting Place:

It has been decided that we should continue to meet in a neutral place rather than in a home or church.

Motion 2001-08-01 (Sherri Roberts, Kent Roberts)

Sherri Roberts moves that our next BVID meeting be held at the Brazos Valley Council of Governments building on November 8, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. for the general meeting and 6:00 p.m. for the board meeting.

Motion 2001-08-01 PASSED unanimously

Announcements:

The silent dinner will be held at Jose’s on September 15^th at 6:30 p.m.
