CONSTITUTION

of the
MONTGOMERY COUNTY REGISTRY OF INTERPRETERS FOR THE DEAF

ARTICLE I
NAME

This organization shall be known as Montgomery County Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, hereafter known to as McRID.

ARTICLE II
PURPOSES

McRID shall be affiliated as a chapter of Texas Society of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc., hereafter referred to as TSID. McRID' S purposes shall be concurrent with those of TSID, which are:

  • To promote the development and expansion of quality interpreting services available to persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing;
  • To encourage the recruitment and training of professionals in interpreting to persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing;
  • To promote the highest standards in interpreting for and communicating with persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing;
  • To train and encourage those interested in learning to communicate with persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing;
  • To offer a forum for professional interpreters for exchange of ideas, opinions, and information concerning interpreting;
  • To offer meetings whereby members can learn, upgrade skills, and participate in group activities;
  • To unitedly support legislative interests and concerns;
  • To utilize the InterpreTexan as the vehicle for dissemination and exchange of information; update of events; legislative and national information; special announcements; information regarding the happenings, workshops, meetings, etc. of the local chapters of TSID and RID.

ARTICLE III
CHAPTER RESPONSIBILITY TO TSID

As a Local Chapter of TSID, McRID must meet the following responsibilities:

  • Adopt and follow a constitution in agreement with the TSID Constitution;
  • Assure that all Local Chapter Certified and Associate Members are also members of TSID;
  • Participate in governing TSID by sending a voting representative to at least three (3) official meetings of TSID Board each year, i.e., the TSID fiscal year.
  • Coordinate local arrangements and/or support services for any professional development activities requested from TSID;
  • Contribute to the TSID communication network by listing activities and workshops open to the TSID General Membership with the Editor of the InterpreTexan for the statewide dissemination;
  • File a written chapter and treasurer's report at each Annual Conference.

ARTICLE IV
MEMBERSHIP

McRID shall consist of individual Chapter Members, Chapter Supporting Members, Student, < Lifetime and Honorary Members> (optional membership). TSID certified or associate member shall hold membership in RID.

ARTICLE V
EXECUTIVE BOARD

An Executive Board shall govern McRID and shall consist of the following officers: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian, and if appointed, a Chapter Representative to the TSID Executive Board. At the discretion of McRID' S membership, McRID' S Executive Board may be expanded to include other members. All Board members shall hold membership in RID. TSID chapter representative shall hold member in RID.

ARTICLE VI
MEETINGS

Meetings of McRID shall be held a minimum of three (3) times a year. Dates of these meetings shall be determined by the Executive Board and the membership will be notified a minimum of fourteen (14) days prior to the meeting.

ARTICLE VII
COMMITTEES

McRID shall have a Nominating Committee, and Audit Committee. The President shall appoint the Chairperson of each committee, with the exception of the Nominating Committee.

ARTICLE VIII
DISSOLUTION

In the event of dissolution of McRID, all accrued funds and materials will be given to TSID to be kept for a period of twelve (12) months in escrow to allow for possible reorganization. If McRID is reorganized under these Constitution/Bylaws, the assets less ten (10) percent will be returned to the McRID Treasurer. If McRID is not reorganized under these Constitution/Bylaws within twelve (12) months, all assets will become the permanent property of TSID.

ARTICLE IX
PARLIMENTARY AUTHORITY

All meetings of McRID, including the Executive Board meetings, shall be conducted according to Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised.

ARTICLE X
AMENDMENT

This Constitution may be amended or a new Constitution adopted by vote of two-thirds (2/3) of the voting members present at any stated or called meeting of McRID, after two weeks prior notice has been given to the membership.

This Constitution is effective as of March 6, 2003.
